The Federal Government has provided support to over 8,000 wheat farmers in Gombe State by offering subsidized inputs for wheat cultivation during the dry season. Dr. Ibrahim Bomoi, the State Coordinator for the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, shared the news in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday. He explained that the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aiming to boost agricultural productivity. Each farmer received two bags of NPK fertilizers, one 50kg bag of Urea, and a 50kg bag of wheat seeds. With the subsidy, farmers are required to contribute 50% of the cost of fertilizer and 25% of the cost of wheat seeds. Bomoi noted that farmers were selected from four local government areas in the state: Nafada, Kaltungo, Yamaltu Deba, and Dukku. He added that the support is intended to address the high cost of wheat farming, with aggregators assigned to each cluster of farmers to ensure proper distribution and avoid market glut. The subsidy program is part of broader efforts by the Federal Government to assist farmers during both the dry and wet seasons. In the wet season, over 6,120 farmers received support for sorghum, rice, and maize cultivation. Bomoi urged farmers to make the most of the resources provided.
