FG Approves Renaming of UNIABUJA to Yakubu Gowon University
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the renaming of the University of Abuja to Yakubu Gowon University. Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made this announcement to State House correspondents after the council’s final meeting of 2024 at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja. Idris explained, “The third decision made by the Federal Executive Council was to rename the University of Abuja in honor of elder statesman, General Yakubu Gowon. From now on, the University of Abuja will be known as Yakubu Gowon University.” He added that the decision would now be sent to the National Assembly for legislative approval to formalize the name change. Additionally, Idris confirmed that the FEC would be going into recess from December 18, 2024, to January 6, 2025.
