FCT Police Commissioner Orders Crackdown on Vehicles Without Number Plates

The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Tunji Disu, has directed that all vehicles without number plates be impounded across the territory. He also ordered the deployment of additional personnel and equipment for increased patrols, stop-and-search operations, and surveillance in response to rising incidents of “one-chance” crimes. A statement from the FCT Police spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, emphasized that vehicles with only one number plate, defaced plates, or covered plates, as well as those with tinted windows, will be targeted in the crackdown. While acknowledging that these measures may cause some inconvenience to commuters, Adeh reassured the public that they are vital for ensuring the safety of FCT residents and deterring criminal activities. The police have already recovered stolen vehicles and made arrests related to “one-chance” robberies as part of these ongoing operations. The command urged vehicle owners to comply with all regulations and encouraged residents to report suspicious activities to ensure continued safety in the capital.
