DHQ Dismisses ‘Malicious Allegations’ on Canada Visa Denial, Urges Support for Military

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has urged Nigerians to disregard what it described as “malicious allegations” regarding visa denials for military personnel attending the Invictus Games in Vancouver, Canada.
In a statement on Monday, Brig.-Gen. Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information, refuted claims surrounding the Nigerian military’s visa applications, emphasizing the need for accurate information. He called on Nigerians to support injured service members who risk their lives for national security.
Gusau explained that Nigeria received an invitation to the Invictus Games, with a 24-member team, including three officers and a physiotherapist. The Invictus Games Foundation covered accommodation and feeding costs. However, only 14 members were granted visas, excluding key personnel such as the team leader, captain, and physiotherapist, while seven athletes were denied entry despite their strong potential.
Despite the setback, Nigeria secured gold, silver, and bronze medals, showcasing the nation’s strength on the global stage. Gusau also highlighted the ongoing construction of the Invictus Foundation Centre in Nigeria, an initiative by the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, aimed at providing mental and physical care for wounded personnel.
He reiterated that the military remains committed to supporting its personnel and urged Nigerians to focus on factual narratives rather than misleading claims.
