Delta Assembly Increases 2025 Budget by N43 Billion

The Delta State House of Assembly has approved an increase to the 2025 budget initially proposed by the State Governor. The lawmakers raised the total budget for the fiscal year to N979 billion, up from the original N936 billion presented for consideration. With this approval, the capital budget for 2025 now stands at N630.5 billion, compared to the previous allocation of N587.3 billion. The recurrent expenditure was also slightly adjusted, rising to N348.76 billion from the initially proposed N348.71 billion. This decision followed a report presented by Hon. Marylyn Okowa-Daramola, the Chairperson of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, during Tuesday’s plenary. The Committee of Supply, led by Speaker Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, thoroughly examined the bill before it was passed unanimously. The motion for the bill’s passage was moved by Majority Leader Hon. Emeka Nwaobi and seconded by Minority Leader Hon. Edafe Emakpor. Speaker Guwor commended the lawmakers for the approval, noting that the budget aligns with global best practices and serves the state’s collective interests. In an interview with journalists, Hon. Okowa-Daramola explained that the increase, particularly in capital expenditure, was aimed at fostering significant infrastructural development in Delta State.
