Conductor docked over alleged theft of N2,000

A 41-year-old conductor, Oluwaseun Soremekun, on Thursday appeared before a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos over alleged stealing of N2,000.
The defendant, who resides in Alagbado area of Lagos, is facing a two- count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Police prosecutor, Sgt. Godwin Oriabure, told the court that the defendant committed the offences at about 10p.m. on Jan. 21, at Ikeja.
He alleged that the defendant conspired with two other men now at large to rob the complainant, Mr Ayokunle Olowofayokun, of his iPhone 12 Pro Max and used it to transfer N2,000 from the complainant’s bank account.
He said the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015 (Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 prescribes a three-year jail term for the offence of stealing, while Section 411 provides two years for conspiracy for any convicted offender.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A. O. Salawu, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She said that both sureties must be gainfully employed with evidence of three years tax payment to the Lagos State Government and whose addresses should be verified by the court.
Salawu adjourned the case until May 12 for mention. (NAN)
