Taraba State Commissioner of Police, Ukachi Peter Opara, has urged for ongoing support for the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in its efforts to tackle drug abuse in the state. Speaking during a courtesy visit to the NDLEA’s state command in Jalingo on Wednesday, Opara stressed the importance of strong collaboration between government agencies, stakeholders, and law enforcement to combat criminal activities and social vices in Taraba. He warned that failing to provide such support could threaten national security. Opara commended the NDLEA for its recent success in dismantling a seven-member transborder drug cartel, which was allegedly supplying drugs to terrorist groups in Nigeria’s Northeast and Northwest, as well as countries like Niger, Mali, Sudan, and Burkina Faso. Reaffirming the police command’s commitment to working with the NDLEA, Opara emphasized the importance of these partnerships in ensuring the safety of Taraba residents. In response, NDLEA State Commandant Ali Obadiah Umar expressed appreciation for Opara’s proactive stance on inter-agency collaboration and pledged continued support in maintaining law and order in the state. The visit highlighted the need for collective action to address the drug abuse crisis and improve security in Taraba.
