The National Coordinator of the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Chiranchi, has called on the National Assembly to amend a tax bill under review to prioritize the welfare of Nigerians. Speaking at the National Women’s Conference held at the Aminu Kano Centre for Democratic Research (Mambayya House) in Kano, Chiranchi emphasized the importance of ensuring that proposed amendments are carefully considered to serve the nation’s best interests. Chiranchi stated that while the CNG supports necessary reforms, specific provisions in the bill must be revised to prevent adverse effects on citizens. He clarified that the group does not oppose the entire bill but seeks to safeguard Nigeria’s interests, including those of women and future generations. Former Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) General Secretary, Salisu Nuhu Muhammad, also addressed the conference, highlighting women’s pivotal role in national reform. He commended their resilience and dedication, stating, “Women are not fragile but have been mischaracterized as vulnerable, though they are indeed the strongest.” The CNG remains committed to advocating for reforms that align with the country’s welfare and development.
