The Church of the Holy Spirit pastoral staff, Reverend Chijioke Anaemena has frowned at the showmanship exhibited by Christians in some of the Churches across Christianity.
He restated that Christianity is an important religion but not a showmanship, hence it advocates for leadership without ulterior motives.
Reverend Anaemena who is attached to Federal Science and Technical College, Awka warned that Christians should not see going to Churches as participating in social clubs, but a spiritual obligation.
Speaking on the theme; “Shepherding God’s Flock Today”, Reverend Anaemena enumerated God’s leadership demands which shows that a leader must be a light to others and to the world.
He went ahead to inform that a leader should be light bearers and direction givers for a better society. He added that the essence of a leader is beyond the leader.
Stepping down the theme to speak on “God’s Leadership Demand”, Reverend Anaemena pointed out that making wealth by leaders may be seen as okay, but it’s part of the distractions of leadership.
He noted that leadership is about being a light to others ,and not about domineering hence the need for exemplary manifestation of Christ like attitude. He called on the wealthy to assist the needy and homeless as they would only be remembered by their good deeds.
The 9 am service was conducted by Reverend Augustine Otiji ,while Lay Reader Kingsley Ogunta conducted the 9am service with sermon from Reverend Dr Nnaemeka Ezeonyi , even as the Vicar ,Church of The Holy Spirit, CHS, Awka Archdeaconry, Ven Dr Onyeka Egwuonwu introduced a Bible study immediately to digest the key issues raised in the sermon..
Ven Egwuonwu noted that a good leader must also first be a good follower to enable him lead well as a bad follower cannever be a good leader, no matter how the person tries.
He pointed out that selfishness is the major bane of leadership, even as he encouraged Christians to lift the poor around them. He however informed the need to catch our children young before they enter adolescent.
The congregation touched some issues that derail people from assisting others to stand despite the hardship in the economy like insecurity , fear, selfishness and greed including overstay of children in schools or shops from 7 am to 6pm.
