China Vows Retaliation Over New US Tariffs

China has pledged to take countermeasures against US President Donald Trump’s decision to impose an additional 10% tariff on Chinese imports, warning it could strain diplomatic dialogue. The new tariffs, set to take effect Tuesday, will coincide with 25% levies on Canadian and Mexican imports.
Beijing rejected US accusations that China contributes to the fentanyl crisis, calling it “shifting blame”, and warned that the tariffs would hurt US businesses and global supply chains.
Mexico and Canada are making diplomatic efforts to avoid the tariffs, while global markets have reacted negatively, with Asian stocks falling.
Trump also plans “reciprocal tariffs” from April 2, targeting specific trading partners. China’s Commerce Minister urged dialogue instead of trade penalties, while Beijing warned that further tariffs could harm US-China anti-drug cooperation.
