China Threatens Retaliation Over US Tariffs

China has condemned new US tariffs, including a 34% levy on Chinese goods, and vowed countermeasures to protect its interests. The Chinese Ministry of Commerce criticized the tariffs as violating international trade rules and warned that they could harm global economic development. Beijing also accused the US of “unilateral bullying” and called for the immediate cancellation of the tariffs.

In response, China may impose export controls on critical minerals, with analysts suggesting this could escalate the trade war. China has already retaliated with tariffs on US agricultural goods, including soybeans and pork. Beijing emphasized the importance of dialogue, stating that “there is no winner in a trade war” and warned against protectionism’s long-term consequences.
