Bridgehead Seniors Condemn Building of Illegal Buildings at the Market

The Bridgehead Market Elders Forum (BEHEF), has begged Governor Willie Obiano to instantly order the stoppage of the building of illegal structures at Bridgehead Market, Onitsha, Anambra State.
Making the call in a statement by Bridgehead Elders in Onitsha Friday, the traders also called on Obiano to direct the Commissioner for Commerce, Wealth Creation and Markets, Chief Uchenna Okafor and the President of Bridgehead Market, Mr. Sunday Obinze to pull down all the illegal structures built at various markets in the Market during the yuletide.
BEHEF also draws the Governors Obiano’s attention on the ongoing ereaction and construction of illegal structures in over 4 markets in Bridgehead Market including Main Market Onitsha and demand an immediate demolition without further delay.
Chief Clement Odozor who spoke on behalf of the traders during the briefing condemned the building of structures at the only motor park in the Onitsha timber market in Bridgehead and other illegal structures springing up in other markets within Bridgehead Market.
The Elders accused Obinze, and Okafor popularly known as wiper and some selected members of the markets Union Executives as being behind the illegal structures.
They alleged that because they wanted to complete the illegal structures, Obinze unilaterally extended the reopening of the market from January 4, 2022 to 11th January, 2022.
He implored Governor Obiano to immediately direct that the illegal structures should be pulled down, noting that those structures have compromised the master plan of the market and if allowed to stay would cause obstruction in time of emergency.
The group also asked the Governor-elect, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, to take note of these illegal structures so as to pull them down when he assumes office in case his predecessor fails to do that and immediately set investigative Committee to sanction all those found culpable.
