NIGERIAN National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has insisted that there is no increment in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) also known as petrol this month.

  NNPC made the clarification to distance itself from a template allegedly released by Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) that the new price of petrol has reached N212.6 per litre.

  A terse tweet via its verified Twitter handle, @NNPCgroup today ruled out any increment in the ex-depot price.

  “#NNPC Insists No Increase in Ex-Depot Price of PMS in March,” it tweeted just hours after the templates allegedly approved for petroleum product marketers trended on social media.

  According to the template which the PPPRA released midnight, petrol is expected to sell at a lower retail price of N209.61 and at an upper retail price of N212.61. Nigerian marketers usually use the upper band for pump price.

  The expected ex-depot price, as seen in the template, is N206.42, while the landing cost is N189.61.

  But In the wake of the outrage that greeted the increase in the price of Premium Motor Spirit also known as petrol, the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency, on Friday, deleted an earlier published template announcing that the new price of petrol has reached N212.6 per litre.

According to the (now deleted) template which the PPPRA released midnight, petrol is expected to sell at a lower retail price of N209.61 and at an upper retail price of N212.61. Nigerian marketers usually use the upper band for pump price.

  The expected ex-depot price, as seen in the template, is N206.42, while the landing cost is N189.61.

  With ex-depot price standing at N206.42 per litre, the March template (now deleted) showed that the landing cost for petrol per litre is N189.61.

  But the PPPRA, in a seeming U-turn, deleted the template hours later. As of 9am today the template was still on the PPPRA’s website but by 10:30am, the template has been deleted. The website page showed ‘Page not found 404.’

In a related development, Anambra State Government through the office of the SSA to the Governor of Anambra State on NUPENG, Petroleum and Union Matters, Peter Nwosu, Anambra State Fire Service, and Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra State Command as well as oil marketers in Anambra State under the auspices of Petroleum Dealers Association (PEDAN) and Independent Petroleum Marketers Association (IPMAN) are meeting at SSG Hall, Government House Awka.

  The meeting is to brainstorm on safety measures to be adopted by petroleum dealers in all petrol stations in Anambra State.

  A communiqué released after the parley said the state government through Anambra State Fire Service shall be conducting quarterly training for all petrol stations with FRSC checking of petrol tanker coming into Anambra State to ensure that they are fitted with safety compliant gadgets against accidents.

  Nwosu assured tanker drivers that the state government will expedite action on the proposed park.
