BPP Claims N1.9tn Savings from Procurement Reforms

The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) has reported saving the Federal Government over N1.9 trillion from 1999 to 2023 through procurement reforms, including the review of procurement procedures and contract verification. BPP Director-General Adebowale Adedokun shared this during a presentation to the House Committee on Public Procurement, highlighting the agency’s role in preventing fund misappropriation and reducing project costs. Adedokun also emphasized the agency’s contribution to increased revenue by ensuring that bidders comply with tax and social security regulations. Despite these achievements, he raised concerns over limited funding, inadequate office space, and the need for an e-procurement system to improve the agency’s efficiency. He appealed for increased funding in the 2025 budget to address these challenges. The committee praised the BPP’s progress in transforming Nigeria’s procurement landscape but acknowledged the need for further improvements to ensure effective governance and procurement management.
