The Chairman of Hong Local Government Area, Adamawa State, Usman Wa’anganda, has confirmed that Boko Haram insurgents have killed 17 people in the council area over the past two weeks.

Speaking in Yola on Monday, Wa’anganda said the latest attack occurred on Saturday, April 26, when insurgents stormed Kopre village around 4:00 p.m., killing at least 10 hunters and Civilian JTF members.

He said the attackers, riding motorcycles and armed with superior firepower, overwhelmed local defenders, burnt several houses, and heightened fear among residents.

“Kopre borders the Sambisa forest, making it a frequent target,” Wa’anganda said, lamenting the lack of military presence and delayed response to distress calls.

While commending the Adamawa State Government’s support for local vigilantes, he urged authorities to deploy a military battalion to restore security and allow displaced residents to return to their homes and farms.

Kopre is the hometown of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha. Soldiers once stationed nearby during his tenure were withdrawn after he left office.
