As Nigeria celebrated her independence on October 1st,the founder of Vineyard Christian Ministries Inc.Archbishop John Osa-Oni has called for patience amongst the growing tension as a result of the hardship and austerity in the country.

Speaking to newsmen concerning the 64th independence anniversary celebration, the clergyman maintained that Nigeria should be grateful and thankful to God for remaining one United indivisible entity “we should be grateful and thankful to God for our togetherness, for remaining a country despite our differences,it doesn’t matter who is ruling at the moment, let’s be positive, let’s be patient with the government, things might not be the way we want it at the moment but there’s hope for a better nation”

He tackled the issue of those who believes that Nigeria is stagnanted and would have done better if still under colonial rule “there’s nothing like freedom,if you’re under colonial rule, you’re a slave and everything about you is being controlled by your master,i tell explicitly that there’s no greatness when you’re under slavery, Nigeria is not stagnant,we are moving, though slowly,i know that things can get better “.

The popular Archbishop also rebuked those calling for military takeover as he recapitulated that democracy is the best government any country could have ” democracy is sweet, it’s just that we haven’t gotten it right,we can’t compare democracy to any system of government, Nigeria should never subscribe to military regime anymore because we have grown beyond the level of being under dictatorship and tyranny, though I had my best period under the military era but at this stage as the world is evolving, military regime is antiquated and a country like Nigeria that’s supposed to be role model shouldn’t be under military dictatorship”.

Finally he urged those protesting against the government to stop and embrace dialogue ” protest does not help a nation, protest has never helped us in this country,it has been a tool for destruction and demolition, most protests are always hijacked and the country has always witnessed massive destructions whenever there is protest, let’s dialogue with the government, let’s be patient with Tinubu because he inherited some of problems confronting us at the moment”.
