Anambra Lawmaker, Ikpeazu Decries Increasing Cases Of Rape

The member representing Onitsha South Two Constituency at the Anambra state Assembly Honourable Beverly Nkemdiche-Ikpeazu has decried the increasing cases of rape in Nigeria.
Honourable Nkemdiche-kpeazu while speaking to ABS in an interview on rampant cases of rape regretted that it is even common among family members, relations and church members, among others. Njide Okoye reports that while
condemning the act in its entirety, the only female member of Anambra House of Assembly said that rape being violation of one’s body sexually is wrong and not acceptable in the society.
She enumerated the trauma victims do pass through, which she said may even lead to their death.
Honourable Nkemdiche-Ikpeazu said that it is sympathetic that as the world is trying to get rid of Coronavirus pandemic, the issue of rape is becoming a focal point of discussion in Nigeria, noting that it is disheartening that over seven hundred cases of rape were recorded in Nigeria from January to May this year.
The House member, who is the Deputy Chief Whip, advocated castration for rapists, to serve as deterrent to others and advised mothers not to send their girl child on an errand in the night or during odd hours of the day.
She added that they should watch their girl child movement with the opposite sex, even family members and other relations.
Maintaining that not only women and girls are being raped, Honourable Nkemdiche-Ikpeazu called on people to be vigilant and sensitive about their environment and raise alarm over any suspicious movement or act in their areas.
