On the strength of judgments coming out from various electoral tribunals especially the recent judgment of appeal court on Governorship election outcome in some states which are raising dust in most part of the country. Rev. Dr. Charles Ekeke the general overseer of Grace Chapel Onitsha who is the Chairman Labour Party Onitsha North and a one time Chairman of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) of the Local Government has said that the development is a ploy by the APC led government of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu to weaken opposition in Nigeria adding that he has no doubt in his mind that it is a dangerous gimmick to make the electorates to loose faith in the nation electoral process so that they will perpetuate themselves in power permanently.
Making this assertion while speaking to newsmen in his church at Onitsha on the judgments yesterday, Rev. Dr. Ekeke described these rulings as disgusting and an intimidation of Nigeria common masses who want to elect leaders that will cater for their welfare.
While asking whether the power that be in the country want to use judiciary to make Nigeria a one Party State, he regretted that the judgments are eroding confidence the common masses have on judiciary as their last hope of salvation adding again that not only that the judgments had dampened the morale of the people but it has rekindled their believes that their votes don’t count again in elections..
Said he, “this development is a dangerous one that should not be allowed to continue as this is going to promote bad blood which will explode one day and engulf the nation, it is high time our political leaders learn their lesson, know that power is transient. I am suggesting that we embrace restructuring of our institutions and entire Nigeria leadership structure, restructure INEC, shuns corruption, deemphasizes religion, tribal sentiments etc”.
