Anambra 2025: Moughalu Emerges LP Governorship Candidate

The former Managing Director of National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Chief George Moughalu has emerged as candidate of Labour Party (LP) ahead of State November 8, 2025 poll.

Moughalu at Labour Party primary held at Awka, Anambra State capital, polled a total of 573 votes to defeat his only rival, Mr John Nwosu that got 19 votes.

The LP governorship primary which was witnessed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and observers, was participated by 649 delegates out of which 601 persons were accredited with a record of 592 valid votes cast and 5 invalid votes.

The Chairman of the LP Governorship election committee/Returning Officer, Barrister Bennett Etanabene, while declaring Moughalu as winner, claimed that Anambra State has been destined to produce the next President of Nigeria starting from winning the November 8 gubernatorial seat.

In an acceptance speech, the party flag bearer, Chief George Moughalu extended hand of fellowship to his opponent, John Nwosu, noting that with unity among the stakeholders, their victory would be assured.

Moughalu, who said he was battle ready to defeat the incumbent governor, Chukwuma Soludo of APGA, explained that his capacity and experience in public service and politics was a surebet.

“I’m politically experienced. I have served at various levels, held leadership of several political parties and board head. Our security infrastructure have failed. Our people have lost their confidence in the affairs of the State.

“I will justify the confidence you reposed on me. Anambra State will be better. Trust me. Check my political trajectory. One thing about nature is that you can’t give what you don’t have. What quantum of light can you bring. I will bring the light of glory for the benefits of Ndi Anambra,” he added.

It’s important to note that at the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA primary won by Governor Chukwuma Soludo, he nominated his deputy, Dr.OnyekaChukwu Ibezim as his running mate.

Governor Chukwuma Soludo, had said: “I am humbled by this historic display of solidarity to be able to the flag of our party again, and I want to say that I accept this nomination wholeheartedly. Anambra will keep rising with the progressive leadership that we have had through APGA, and I will continue to appreciate the leadership of the party,” he noted.
