Amb. Mbadiwe Describes UNIZIK As Incredible Citadel Of Learning

The new Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Ambassador Greg Mbadiwe has described the University as a wonderful citadel of learning endowed with amazing infrastructures and facilities.

Amb. Mbadiwe made the remarks during a brief chat with journalists in the aftermath of the tour of the Awka Campus of the University as part of activities marking the inaugural meeting of the newly constituted Governing Council of the institution.

Amb. Mbadiwe described UNIZIK as a unique institution named after Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, the great ‘ZIK of Africa’ with the name having a ripple and positive effects in the institution as can be seen with the infrastructures domiciled in the main campus as well as the great job done by the institution’s founding fathers and administrators in dynamics, policy and decision making.

The former Nigerian Ambassador to Democratic Republic of Congo and one time Head, National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) averred that he is elated to be part of the institution’s dynamics in his capacity as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman Governing Council, as it offers an opportunity to contribute his quota towards strengthening what is already in place in the University.

Amb. Mbadiwe said: “Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka is no doubt a wonderful citadel of learning endowed with great facilities and infrastructures and am really delighted to be associated with this University in my capacity as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council.

“The institution’s founding fathers, administrators and my predecessors were instrumental in modeling the University to it present shape and am happy with this development and what I have seen which gives room for us to be able to contribute our quota towards strengthening what we have seen. I must commend those who were ahead of me, they have done an excellent job, I won’t fail to also commend TETFUND and NEEDS Assessment for the kind of contribution they have made here,” Mbadiwe stated.

Amb. Mbadiwe disclosed that during his time, he will attract individuals from various spheres of human endeavour to partner with the institution so as to build on what is already in place and achieve more all geared towards accelerating the institution’s profile. The seasoned economist, lawyer and administrator admonished the students of the institution to ensure they shun all forms of social vices and focus on their studies in order to be good ambassadors of the University after their stay in the institution.

Amb. Greg Mbadiwe, MFR, the new Pro-Chancellor and Chairman Governing Council of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State is the first son of late nationalist, Dr. Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe. He was the Imo State Presidential Flag bearer of the defunct National Republican Convention (NRC) in 1993.

He was once the Nigerian Ambassador to DR Congo and a former Director at the Directorate of Planning, Research and Strategy at Legacy House Abuja, the official headquarters of President Olusegun Obasanjo’s re-election campaign Organization Abuja in 2003.
