On heel of the recent unfortunate fire incident which occurred at Ifejika Street a nearby Street to the famous Onitsha main market where a lot of goods worth billions of naira was lost to inferno, Chief Bonaventure Muo (Aka) Omeka Odimma Aniocha the chairman of Ochanja central market has assured that such ugly incident will not happen in his market Ochanja central market as the market has many proactive measures on ground to ward off such fire outbreak adding that aside from this that he and his executive are always at alert to monitor every part of the market on 24 hours basis to clamp down on anything that will ignite fire in and around the market.
Disclosing this while speaking to journalists on plan of the market to prevent fire outbreak especially in this festive season of Easter and other matters as it affect the smooth running of the market, Chief Muo said that already that the market is blessed with government built water reservoir, borehole with solar powered sumo explaining that pipes for pumping of water were distributed all over the market in case of fire incident. He stated that the market is in custody of a fire fighting truck provided by the Anambra state government adding that each line of the market has at least a litre of fire extinguisher but that they the executives of the market had ordered that each line will at least have 10 litres of fire extinguisher so that they will not be taken unawares in case of emergency.
Explaining further he also said that that the executives had made it a must for security men of the market to patrol the market day and night to ensure fire safety stressing again that it is the policy of the market not to allow open fire cooking with stoves or firewood inside the market as well as switching off all electricity in the market from controlling source once it is six o clock in the evening.
Corroborating this, Hon Obinna Maduka, the secretary of the market and chief Okeke Samson the Vice Chairman of the market all said that the executives are at alert and working round the clock to ensure security as well as make it possible for the market not to witness any ugly incident even as they congratulated Gov Soludo on his second term bid assuring him that traders will vote him for a second term in office.
