Nigerian Lawmakers Delay Plenary Resumption, Cite Budget Engagements

The House of Representatives has postponed its plenary resumption, initially scheduled for Tuesday, January 28, 2025. The new resumption date is now set for Tuesday, February 4, 2025. This update was revealed in a statement by the House spokesperson, Hon. Akin Rotimi, who noted that the decision followed an internal memorandum issued by the Clerk of the House, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, on the directive of the House leadership. Rotimi explained that the postponement was necessary to allow committees more time to finalize ongoing budget engagements and defenses with ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), ensuring a thorough and detailed legislative process. “The House remains dedicated to fulfilling its legislative duties for the benefit of Nigerians and appreciates the understanding of all stakeholders,” the statement concluded.
