Jigawa Government Identifies 6,348 Ghost Workers in Staff Audit

The Jigawa State Government has revealed that it uncovered 6,348 ghost workers during its Statewide Staff Audit Biometric Data Capture and Validation Exercise. The state’s Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports, and Culture, Hon. Sagir Musa, made this announcement while briefing the press on the outcomes of the state Executive Council meeting, which was chaired by Governor Umar Namadi on Monday. According to the commissioner, the state has been able to save N314,657,342.06 each month, amounting to N3,775,888,809.72 annually. As reported, the Jigawa State Government had initiated the enrollment of its employees into the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Management System (IPPMS). The goal was not to target workers, but to clean up the payroll system and ensure timely payment of salaries and entitlements. Sagir also noted that the state Executive Council approved the creation of a Continuous Capture Centre (CCC) at the Office of the Head of Civil Service to finalize the Statewide Staff Audit Biometric Data Capture and Validation Exercise. He explained, “The Council has received the report of the Staff Verification Exercise and approved the establishment of a Continuous Capture Centre (CCC) at the Office of the Head of Civil Service for the completion of the Statewide Staff Audit Biometric Data Capture and Validation Exercise as part of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Management System (IPPMS) for the Jigawa State Government.” The audit led to the identification of 6,348 ghost workers, resulting in significant cost savings of approximately N314,657,342.06 per month and N3,775,888,809.72 annually.
