A suspected cable thief, Muktar Rabiu, was electrocuted while trying to steal high-voltage cables in the Federal Capital Territory. The incident occurred on November 28, 2024, just weeks after Rabiu had been arrested and sentenced for a similar offense. According to FCT Police Command spokesperson Josephine Adeh, Rabiu was initially apprehended on November 21, 2024, during a routine patrol on Christ the King Road in Gwagwalada, where he was caught with stolen high-voltage cables from the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company. After being arraigned, Rabiu was sentenced to community service, including 42 strokes of the cane. However, the penalty did not deter him. On November 28, while attempting to steal cables again, Rabiu was electrocuted and severely injured. He is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital. Once he recovers, he will face further charges. Adeh warned against vandalism and theft of public infrastructure, emphasizing the risks to public safety and the disruption of essential services. The police urged citizens to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help combat vandalism and ensure community safety.
