In an effort to alleviate economic challenges and support livelihoods, the Ogun State Government has begun selling subsidized Federal Government rice in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun East Senatorial District. This initiative follows the launch by Governor Dapo Abiodun, who inaugurated the sale of subsidized rice across all three senatorial districts at the Governor’s Office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta. Hamzat Abdulwasiu, a representative from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, explained that the rice purchase process will follow strict guidelines to ensure transparency, efficiency, and accountability. Residents interested in purchasing the 50kg bags of rice must be present for registration with their National Identification Number (NIN) and an ATM card loaded with N40,000. Rice will be distributed within 48 to 72 hours of registration. Abdulwasiu emphasized that no cash or bank transfers are accepted, and while group collection is allowed, individuals must register separately. He reported that the process has been smooth and efficient so far. Dr. Olusoji Adekoya, representing the Ogun State Government, noted that the initiative is running peacefully and has been well-received by Ijebu-Ode residents, who have been eagerly participating in the distribution. He mentioned that the program will last for three weeks. Beneficiary Bode Ayanbugajo expressed gratitude for the initiative, stating that the subsidized rice will greatly ease the impact of economic hardship. He urged governments at all levels to continue introducing initiatives to help address the country’s socio-economic challenges.
