ANAMBRA STATE LEGISLATORS SPEAK ON ACHIEVEMENTS SO FAR AS THEY CELEBRATES ONE YEAR IN OFFICE

Some Law Makers have passed a vote of confidence on the Speaker of the Anambra state House of Assembly, Mr Somtochukwu Udeze .

The law makers who was speaking on the one year anniversary the 8th Assembly, said the House of Assembly in the last one year have witnessed an exemplary and purposeful leadership .

They therefore pledged their total support and good collaboration to ensure that the state witness unprecedented turnaround in line with the governor Chukwuma Soludo policy thrust of evolving a liveable Prosperous homeland .

The 8th Anambra state House of Assembly was inaugurated on June 12 for a tenure of four years having won elections in their various constituencies across the state.

After the inauguration, the law makers elected Mr Somtochukwu Udeze representing Ogbaru constituency 2 to become their Speaker having served as a legislator for eight years already and being a seasoned leader.

One year after, the law makers say they have no regrets becoming law makers and unanimously electing Mr Udeze as their Speaker.

One of them, Mr Innocent Ojike representing Oyi constituency, described the Speaker as a leader who carries everyone along irrespective of Political Party affiliation of the members.

Mr Ojike who is also the chairman House Committee on Trade and Commerce noted that in the last one year, they have tried possible best to engage stakeholders in the various markets across the state with a view to ensuring that there is relative peace and harmonized levies for the traders .

He noted that part of their duty as a committee is to ensure through oversight function , that the revenues collected by the market leaders are not mismanaged but rather paid into government purse for the overall development of the state.

Mr Ojike while accessing his one year in office said he has not disappointed the people of Oyi constituency as many youths have been empowered with 50 shuttle buses , 20 motorcycles among other developmental projects attracted to the area.

The law maker who said he has in the last one year fenced Igwedor and Odumodu primary schools, called on the people to continue to support the administration of governor Chukwuma Soludo as he works harmoniously with the Legislative arm of government to bring democracy dividends to the people.

The Member representing Onitsha South constituency 2, Mr Umennajiego rated the 8th Assembly high in terms of cohesion, contributions and constituency representation.

According to him, the Speaker, Mr Somtochukwu Udeze has demonstrated a large heart and carried the members along in a very impressive manner and decorum.

Mr Umennajiego noted that within his one year as a law maker, his people have indeed benefited in several ways including a town hall interaction with them, motions aimed that attracted the rehabilitation of some roads in the area, organized sports Tournament , fumigation of the entire area against mosquitoes as well as offered ten termly scholarships to some students in the constituency.

His Onitsha North Constituency 1 Counterpart,, Mr Justice Azuka observed that despite joining the 8th Assembly in December 2023 after wining a long court processes, he has Co sponsored three bills and over thirty motions so far.

Mr Azuka explained that he has also been able to sponsore some of his constituency for JAMB and WAEC examinations as well as Co sponsored Schools interhouse Sports while promising that more better days are ahead.

The member representing Ogbaru Constituency 1, Said in the 8th assembly, plenary became more important than what used to be in the last where Executive session takes the entire time.

Mr Igwe commended the Governor for giving assent to eleven Executive and Private member bills passed by the law makers which is rare to achieve within one year when compared with previous Adsemblies.

Mr Igwe who is the Chairman House Committee on Public Accounts , said the people of Okpoko where already reaping the benefits of finding gik worthy to represent them for a second time in the state Assembly as both roads and infrastructural development from the governor has not eluded the area.

In an interview, the member representing Orumba South constituency, Mr Emmanuel Nwafor said the first one year has presented the law makers as vibrant and peace loving people who have the interest and development of their constituencies and Anambra state at heart .

Mr Nwafor who is the Chairman House Committee on Works, noted that through Legislative oversight , the law makers have ensured that the tax payers money is utilized for the overall interest of the people.

While Commending the leadership of the House , Mr Nwafor said through his legislative ingenuity, job opportunities have been offered to the people and that he has in the last one year also attracted road constructions, boreholes, renovation of schools.

” Mr Speaker, Somto Udeze have been a model , because when you marry two wives, you cab make an informed choice . In fact he is a very good man, the way he handles the House like a father even though he is younger age but the way he handles people, respects members,bring people reasoning together In fact he has been carrying the house along, mediation with the governor , he has been very encouraging. “

The Majority Leader, Mr Ikenna Ofodeme said the law makers in the last one year have proven their readiness and dedication to serve the state and their constituents with sound legislation.

According to him, since their inauguration in June 12 , 2023, the 8th Assembly has shown commitment towards collaborating with the Executive and Judicial arms of government to enable them actuallize the loafty plans they have for the people unhindered.

Mr Ofodeme commended the law makers for being alive to the three cardinal responsibilities of the legislative arm which including , Making laws, Oversight function and quality representation of the people irrespective of having 4 different political parties present in the 8th assembly.

The Majority Leader said despite the passage of over 12 bills within one year, there are still more than 15 bills undergoing scrutiny at various levels and committees including those that are yet to be on notice.

Mr Ofodeme who represents Ekwusigo constituency, said his one year in office have been very impressive as he has attracted more development to the people and empowered so many with job opportunities and monetary donations to enable them become better persons in the society.

In an interview , the Deputy Speaker, Mr Chukwuma Okoye described the 8th Assembly as a set of progressive minds who despite their political affiliations are determined to make Anambra great through Legislative sagacity.

According to him, the present law makers have shown total commitment and zeal to ensure that the loudable ideas and aspirations of governor Chukwuma Soludo are made manifest through Legislative backings and appropriations.

Mr Okoye noted that as a Deputy Speaker, his constituents have continued to witness unprecedented turnaround in terms of development and empowerment from the government.

The Deputy Speaker noted that apart from handing cheques worth millions of naira to his constituents to start up businesses, he has also sinked borehole in Nibo community and recently built a health post in Mbaukwu among other developmental projects attracted to the area.

The Speaker of the House , Mr Somtochukwu Udeze earlier in a press briefing noted that the 8th Assembly will continue to remain focused and determined towards making Anambra a liveable Prosperous homeland for all through Legislative backings and support to the executive arm of government.

The 8th Assembly was inaugurated on 12th June 2023 with Mr Somtochukwu Udeze representing Ogbaru Constituency 2 emerging the Speaker of the House.
