Political leaders of Igbo extraction have been urged to shun the ‘pull-him-down’ syndrome that has been the bane of politics in Igboland and support presidential candidate of southeast origin.

The call came as the country gears up to elect its next president in the 2023 general election.

Popular activist, Comrade Vincent Ezekwueme, the Convener of Movement For Election of Nigeria President of Igbo Extraction made the call when executives of the organization led by National Secretary, Prof. Justus Chidi, paid a condolence visit to him over the demise of his father and patriarch, Pa Sylvester Obika Ezekwueme.

Comrade Ezekwueme called on the Igbo political leaders working against the actualization of Nigeria’s President of Igbo Extraction to retrace their steps and toe the path of justice and equity.

Comrade Ezekwueme said it is an anathema and great disservice not only to oppose a presidential candidate of southeast extraction but most pathetic and despicable to work against it due to selfishness and the unbridled quest for materialism.

He said there is a general apprehension that in Nigeria’s 24 years of democracy, it is the turn of the southeastern zone to produce the next president, but described it as very unfortunate that those who should be at the forefront of canvassing for Igbo presidency are working relentlessly to truncate it.

He said “It will be a step in the right direction for southeast political, religious and tomorrow leaders to emulate and exhibit unequal patriotism, political sagacity, and intelligence of southwest in 2003 when it’s a dominant political party, Alliance For Democracy (AD), failed to fill presidential candidate as support and solidarity to then President Olusegun Obasanjo, presidential candidate of People’s Democratic Party (PDP). This resulted in block votes and his eventual victory at the poll.

“Most painful and regrettably is some rapacious political leaders and their overzealous supporters engage in character assassination, name callings, unsubstantiated aspersions against the presidential candidate of Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi. Fortunately, the electorate is wiser now and knows what is best for the interest of Nigerians.”

Earlier the leader of the delegation
Prof. Justus Chidi commiserated with the Ezekwueme family and prayed for the eternal repose of the deceased soul. He equally prayed to God to give the family the grace and fortitude to bear the loss.
