200 PWDs To Serve As Election Observers In Anambra
About 200 individuals living with disabilities have been deployed as election watchers in the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra State slated for November 6, 2021.
The deployment was facilitated by a non-governmental organisation, Inclusive Friends Association (IFA) in partnership with Access Nigeria and National Democratic Institute.
The Country Executive Director of IFA, Grace Jerry, disclosed this when the trio body paid the State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mr Everestus Chimezie Abiyo, an advocacy visit on the need to provide adequate security for people leaving with disabilities during the election.
She noted that, as of 2021, about 31 million people leaving with disabilities has no access to exercise their voting right across Nigeria.
She commended the National Assembly, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other Human Rights Groups in the country for their continue’s support towards People Leaving with Disabilities.
Responding, the State Commandant, Mr Obiyo, reiterated the Command’s commitment to sustaining priority protection for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) to participate fully in the election.
He appreciated the groups for their continued efforts in ensuring People leaving with disabilities are not disfranchised before, during and after the election.
The groups also paid a similar advocacy visit to the state Police Commissioner, Mr Echeng Echeng.
