The pilot group of youths who engaged in the ‘1 Youth 2 Skills initiative’ of Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State have enrolled in the second phase of the skill acquisition program which is the Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI).
The EDI which is ongoing at all the 21 Local Government Area(LGA) Secretariats is to educate those trainees who have completed their four-months skill acquisition training on how to manage their skill until it grows into viable Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) as a money spinning venture.
According to the Initiative supervisor for Idemiili South, Mrs Jennifer Chinze this EDI program will be ending next week before the actual empowerment cum mobilization by His Excellency through the Ministry of Youth Empowerment.
“Prof Soludo has a vision to take off idle youths off the streets and ensure that every youth resident in Anambra is gainfully employed, productive and useful for himself or herself and the community.
“The people here which are about 50 persons have successfully completed their four months skill acquisition program under several Master Trainers.
“They have finished the practicals so they are here to learn how to manage the skill as a business venture which will grow until they are engaged as Master Trainers to teach other youths in few years to come.
“I urge them not to trivialize this opportunity. Other things being equal plans are ongoin to establish them soon. They should neither think of diverting the empowerment funds nor sell off their kits but manage their business at least to put food on their tables,” said Mrs Chinze.

A Master trainer on Cinematography, Mr. Charles Ezeobata after eulogizing Governor Soludo urged the trainees and those who are yet to embrace the initiative to do so saying that it was a lifetime opportunity to eradicate poverty from families.”As a cinematographer you may not be a multi millionaire but you can cater for yourself and family”.
The trio of Ebube Ibah an ICT trainee, Callistus Ikenwa a Leather work trainee and Mrs Ogonna Ikewelu a Cosmetology trainee all thanked Governor Soludo for investing in the youths.
They confirmed receiving State transportation allowances during their apprenticeship and pledged serious commitment to maximize the business opportunity so as to add value to others in the nearest future.
