The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed the killing of 16 people in a bandit attack on Tungan Taura and Tungan Ladan villages in Augie Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson CSP Nafiu Abubakar, in a statement on Monday, said the attack occurred around 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2025. He said the assailants, suspected to be members of the notorious Lakurawa gang, stormed the villages in large numbers, rustling cattle and clashing with residents.
“The confrontation led to the tragic death of sixteen individuals,” the statement read.
Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, condemned the killings and assured residents of swift justice. He announced the deployment of additional security personnel, including police, military, NSCDC operatives, and vigilantes, to secure the affected areas.
“Our commitment to eliminating banditry and violent crime in Kebbi remains unwavering,” Sani said, adding that all resources would be mobilized to apprehend the attackers.
Abubakar noted that calm has returned to the communities, and investigations are underway. The Command urged residents to remain vigilant and support ongoing security operations.
