The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has reported that an early morning fire at a popular shopping district in Damaturu, the state capital, destroyed 46 shops and stalls, impacting approximately 105 business owners. “Further investigations and assessments are ongoing to evaluate the full extent of the damage and identify immediate relief measures,” the Agency stated. While the exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined, some residents suspect a power surge occurred around 3:20 AM. Upon receiving a distress call, personnel from the Yobe State Fire Service responded quickly to the scene, extinguishing the flames and preventing the fire from spreading to nearby shops and houses. Fire outbreaks are common during the harmattan season in this region, often affecting markets and residential areas.
