10 years after, UNICEF, Unizik fm commemorates Chibok girls kidnap

The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) Enugu chapter, in collaboration with Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) FM remembers the anniversary of the chibok school girls kidnapping today 14th April.
The event which took place at the University auditorium, witnessed presence of Dean Faculty Of Social Sciences, Prof Tonycollins Okafor; Dean of Student Affairs, Prof Chinonso Achebe; UNICEF Rep Enugu chapter, Mr Okezie Nkpa; Director of UNIZIK FM, Prof Ifeoma Dunno and others with various Students inclusive.
The UNICEF rep in his opening address said Unizik was chosen for the event among the South East Universities because she mainstreamed child’s rights in their curriculum.

He said the commemoration was not just an avenue to vocalize big grammar and exchange vocabulary, but a medium to soberly remember the tragedy that befell the nation 10 years ago and to seek solutions to the safety and insecurity challenges in the country. He also said the day calls for the inculcation of safety values among students.
He called on government and other security institutions to buckle-up, noting that there had been 26 abductions after the Chibok Schoolgirls kidnap and that over 1,500 students had been abducted so far.
The event was marked with speeches from security, UNICEF and university officials including the Dean of Students Affairs who urged the Federal Government to take up implementation action on the Safe School Declaration (SSD) of 2015.
